The healthcare industry is facing a range of challenges that require innovative solutions, especially when it comes to the healthcare workforce. The AWS Healthcare Accelerator: Global Cohort for Workforce has taken a step towards addressing this issue by providing new tools and capabilities for innovation. The accelerator has brought together some of the best entrepreneurs in the world to work on this complex and important problem. As an aggregator and discoverer of the top talent from across the globe, AWS, along with support from AlchemistX (U.S. cohort) and Plexal (EMEA cohort), will work alongside these startups to address these challenges.
From April 11-14, 2023, the U.S. cohort will meet for Week Zero in New York, NY. The startups will gather in person for a deep dive into the inner workings of AWS and the support they will receive throughout the program. They will also have the opportunity to meet other participants and business mentors and work with the accelerator team, who will assess their needs to ensure a customized accelerator experience for each startup when the program commences in May 2023.
Ideas are only the start of effective innovation. What matters is execution, and proving proposed solutions in the real world. This is where the collaboration between AWS, AlchemistX, the startups, and the key customers – the participating healthcare systems – comes into play. Expertise and connections enable actionable feedback, real-world testing, and, ultimately, positive impact through innovation.
The true driving force behind this impact is the cohort itself. The accelerator had the opportunity to select from among the best entrepreneurs in the world – a daunting challenge in and of itself. "This is an especially exciting group of founders who collectively have the potential to transform some of the most painful aspects of health delivery," says Ian Bergman, Head of AlchemistX. "We are excited to work with AWS and each of the founders to contribute to the state of the art in healthcare workforce training, retention, and deployment."
It is exciting to see such initiatives being taken to address the challenges in the healthcare industry. The cohort of entrepreneurs has the potential to create globally impactful solutions with the provided tools and capabilities offered in the program. What the startups develop here will improve the lives of people in the health workforce and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
"To better lift up the workforce of today and grow the workforce of tomorrow, we must bring together both experts and innovators, and we must do it now," says Chris DeRienzo, M.D., Chief Physician Executive, American Hospital Association (AHA). "I've seen firsthand how technology can improve care processes, allowing both clinicians and support team members to spend more of their time improving patient outcomes. That's why the AHA is excited to be a part of advancing new solutions like those incubated by the AWS Healthcare Accelerator—our members need their support now more than ever."
